I use powders very often – I cannot imagine leaving my foundation as it is – I have to set it. I’ve been looking for my perfect loose powder for quite a while and only recently I have found the one. The one and only, my makeup must-have – NARS Soft Velvet Loose Powder.
NARS Soft Velvet Loose Powder ($37.00) – Sets foundation and controls oil, while visibly blurring the appearance of fine lines and pores with a soft focus finish.
NARS Soft Velvet Loose Powder comes in a plastic jar with the rubberized black lid that collects your prints and powder excess really easily. The amount of product you get is 10 g or 0.35 oz – that is a huge amount and this powder is likely to last your for two full years of daily use. Velvet Loose Powder is available in 8 shades: Snow (for fair skin tones), Flesh (for fair skin tones), Eden (for yellow medium skin tones), Beach (for deep yellow medium skin tones), Desert (light rose undertones to enhance medium skin tones), Mountain (for deep reddish-brown skin tones), Heat (for the deepest true brown skin tones) and Valley (for the deepest neutral skin tones).
As I have a very light skin tone with cool pink undertones I chose the Flesh shade that is quite neutral against my skin tone. NARS Soft Velvet Loose Powder in Flesh is a light beige colour with neutral undertones and a soft matte finish. The powder itself is extremely finely milled that makes it appropriate for both powdering the face and using it to set the concealer. The sifter is really good – it only allows a moderate amount of powder to be released that minimizes the risk of over-pouring the product and having the powder particles floating everywhere around you.
I really like this powder for how finely milled it is. It is ideal to set the under-eye concealer because it goes on smooth, does not set into fine lines around the eyes and sets the concealer for good 8-9 hours. It has a slightly brightening effect that instantly makes your eyes look more awake and bright. Flesh colour is ideal for my NW20 skin tone and works well with all my foundations. It does not cling to dryer areas and does not appear patchy at all. This powder is very easy to apply – it goes on smooth and even and instantly mattifies the skin. I would suggest using a very large and fluffy powder brush with it as it gives the best result. The skin remains matte for 5 hours least so it definitely does control oils as my forehead goes oily an hour and a half after makeup application if I don’t use anything mattifying.
I have already included the NARS Soft Velvet Loose Powder in Flesh in my makeup must-haves (here) and I do not see any other powder replacing it any time soon. It does everything I expect from it – it is an amazing powder that is good at everything from setting your concealer to setting your foundation and mattifying the skin. Love!
