Do you have a favourite BB/CC cream, tinted moisturizer?

Holika Holika Shimmering Petit BB Cream, Bourjois Paris 123 Perfect CC Cream, NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer Review
Holika Holika Shimmering Petit BB Cream, Bourjois Paris 123 Perfect CC Cream, NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer

I love wearing foundation, I really do. But sometimes my skin needs more hydration and lighter textures and it feels like it can’t breathe under another layer of a foundation anymore. At the same time I still want to have some coverage to even out my skin tone. This is the time when bb/cc creams and tinted moisturizers come to help.

Korean makeup brands started this craziness around BB creams that brought to life a huge amount of other double letter creams – like CC/DD/EE creams that are being launched by the european brands every other season. I haven’t personally got an EE cream yet but I already own a DD one (KIKO Milano Sunshine DD Cream, that is pretty good, to be honest). If BB creams do have a serious philosophy behind the name, I do not think there is much idea hidden behind the CC/DD/EE names.

From my experience, there isn’t much difference between BB creams and CC/DD/EE ones – all these creams offer coverage together with hydration and tend to colour adapt pretty well. Tinted moisturizers do on the contrary differ from all these creams as they tend to be more hydrating and have lesser coverage – this makes them less obvious on the face.

I’m lucky enough to have a favourite in each category with a good diversity of brands. For a  BB cream I would go with a Korean brand (because Korean BB creams are hands down the best) – Holika Holika Petit BB Cream in Shimmering is my favourite BB cream because it have a very descent coverage, very light texture and a slightly highlighting effect. It works perfectly well with other makeup products layered over it and lasts for at least 8 hours on my skin. The only CC cream I really like is the Bourjois Paris 123 Perfect CC Cream – it has a very good coverage that easily conceals redness, minor imperfections and dark spots but stays light-weight and remains hydrating throughout the wear time.

No matter how much I like BB and CC creams mentioned above – I still prefer a tinted moisturizer for a few good reasons. My favourite one is the NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer. It gives me enough coverage to even out the skin tone, it provides enough hydration to keep my skin moisturised for the whole day and it is absolutely undetectable on the skin. The formula is exceptionally lightweight and creamy that makes it a perfect everyday face product. With this tinted moisturizer my skin looks even, healthy and natural.

Do you like to use BB/CC creams? Or maybe you prefer DD/EE/ creams? Do you feel like there is a significant difference between them? What do you think of the tinted moisturizers? Are there any favourites of yours in this category? Feel free to share your favourites, thoughts and ideas in the comments down below! Let’s discuss!

Thank you very much for your attention.

Have an amazing day!

Hugs and kisses,

Dorothea ❤

  1. I have not YET found my perfect or favorite one. I would love to, I need to buy some samples and try them on. Normally I disliked the Korean ones because they were or are too white for my skin, which is not dark, but a MAC NW10/15. I am still searching, so meanwhile I use foundation. 😦

      1. wow, I would not be able to say, it’s been longtime now, I think K-II or a similar brand. Then I tried one by Missha, I think. I have read about Secret Key but I have not tried it, probably it is one I would like to . If you have any suggestions for my sensitive skin please, do so, I would be thankful, there are so many on the market now and I am confused on to which ones I should try. My skin is also combination. Thank you!! xoxox

        1. My skin is combination as well! It makes it so much harder to find an appropriate foundation or a bb/cc cream! For a tinted moisturizer I would totally suggest trying NARS – it is pretty awesome: very lightweight yet has quite a decent coverage. I personally really like KIKO BB cream as well and as for the Korean brands I like Holika Holika BB creams, Nature Republic as well, Skin79 (they have quite a range of BB creams!), Tony Moly makes really good BB and CC creams too. Dr. Jart+ BB cream is also available in Europe and US. I think that Korean BB/CC creams are a better match for those with fair and light skin tones and usually are a miss for those with skin darker than light. And due to hydrating/concealing properties these creams are suitable for a combination skin. I also have quite a sensitive skin but I’ve never experienced any problems, redness or irritation with Korean foundations or BB/CC creams. Hope, this might be helpful! 🙂

          1. Ohhh Dear Dorothea, thank you, thank you THANK YOU! I am copying this reply and will check all that it says. I will find through this answer of yours my bb cream finally. Sometimes I don’t like wearing foundation so I don’t wear anything, just some pressed power by Eglips which is good, has a nice tone. But I want to use bb or cc creams, so thanks so much, I am going to follow your advice. I will keep you posted through my blog. Thanks again! xoxoxox ❤

            1. No problem! Keep asking me if there is something you need to know – I am glad to help! If you want to know which BB cream is the best one – there is no specific answer because it highly depends on one’s personal preferences. My order of preference is the following: Missha, Nature Republic, Skin79, Holika, Dr. Jart+, Tony Moly. There might be better options available but I haven’t tried them yet. I would advise considering Nature Republic and Holika Holika because of more affordable prices compared to Missha and Dr. Jart+ – especially when you are new to BB/CC creams and don’t really know what to expect. Besides, there are also cushion foundations (that are different from the BB/CC creams) and that I personally really like – Korean cushion foundations are the best as well – very light-weight formula, medium coverage and beautiful finish. You might want to consider them as well 😉 Don’t hesitate to ask questions – I’m here to help! 🙂

              1. You are so right, it is true that I should start with a not expensive bb cream. Yes, absolutely, thanks for reminding me of this, if not, probably I would have bought one that is a little high end and then… what if I don’t feel it is the right for me? So yes, I am going for the NR and HH ones, I think this will be a start for me. On the other hand, I have the Missha Cushion foundation. It comes in shade nr 23, which is a bit clear for me. The name is “Missha M Magic Cushion”. Is it a foundation or a BB Cream? If it’s a BB cream, then I don’t think there is need to buy anything else, at least not for now. Even if it is a bit clear for me, I still like the texture and it goes underneath the foundation. BUT now that I think… I want to wear just bb cream at times, and not always foundation. So I will check the two mentioned brands. If this cushion is not a BB cream , then more reason to choose one from the other two brands. Thank you Dorothea, yes you are helping me a lot with this! 😀 ❤

                1. You should always refer to your own budget and personal preferences and get the products that meet your personal requirements 🙂 Cushion Foundations tend to have a lighter coverage compared to traditional foundations, that is true, and it is a foundation not a BB cream. Do check Nature Republic and Holika Holika – I hope you’ll find your perfect BB cream or at least you’ll know what works for you and what doesn’t – that is always good as well 😉 No problem, I’m happy to help ❤

                  1. Just a quick note to let you know that yesterday I checked Memebox, I needed two other items and then I saw Holika Holika Bouncing BB Cream at a very cheap price , so I bought it instead of HH BB Cream Clearing, probably because I do not have all those pimples. So I will let you know how it is going. I will of course write a review about it and you will be my fairy godmother 🙂 Thanks so much again, and until soon. 🙂

                    1. Bouncing BB cream is from the same range of Holika Holika BB creams that I love! My favourite one is Shimmering but Aqua is great as well! I haven’t tried the Bouncing one but I guess it must be as good as the other two! 😀 Can’t wait to see your review on it! 🙂

  2. Hi, Dorothea, this is good news 🙂 Today I got the package from Memebox, including the Holika Holika Bouncing BB Cream. Ok, I will write about it but I want to tell you first 😀 Ok, well I applied it, looked whitish (shade, not white cast) just whitish, and then little by little, as I was applying it it became more like my skin. While pressing with the end of my fingers onto the skin it started looking a bit clearer than my skin but not too much, just brighter! And then brighter and more beautiful. Oh, yes, I love it! It looks so natural and nice, better than many foundations! It’s like my skin. It looks a little sophisticated for the way it goes with natural makeup. Definitely, I like it very much, and now I want to try the other ones from Holika Holika, like Moist. It’s a great way to start, and I thank you very much. Since you gave me a list, I keep it and will try other brands that you mention but not now, right now I love this one. It’s a great buying because its price was so much reduced! Thank you for your guidance, I got a very nice BB Cream. xoxoxox Hugs.

    1. Hey! 🙂 Sorry, it was a very busy week! Just got a chance to reply! Well, I am really happy that you ended up liking it! This is definitely great news! I’d love to see your full review on it! BB creams may look a bit white-ish at first but they always adapt to your skin colour fast. I also love how natural Holika Holika BB creams look on the skin 🙂 I am so happy I was able to help you! Now you have a huge area of makeup to explore – that is so exciting, isn’t it? 😀 ❤
