I do not remember exactly when I started using makeup setting sprays but it was about a year or two ago. And I am so glad I did. Makeup fixing sprays have some amazing advantages that are not limited to setting options only. They san be hydrating, refreshing, cooling and even oil-controlling!

I don’t think that I use setting sprays every single time I do my makeup but I do use them three-four times a week usually. And I already have my favorites in this category. Depending on my current needs I choose the one setting spray that performs the best.

If I need my makeup to stay strong for the whole day and not to move even the tiniest bit – then I always reach for my tried and true Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray. It does not smell like anything in particular, more like something alcohol based that explains why it is that gorgeous at setting your makeup. It truly is a magic in a bottle as it sets my makeup like nothing else. I do not have to worry about my makeup for the whole day as it stays put for 24 hours long. The mist is also beyond praise – it is very fine and dispersed. This is the best makeup fixing solution I’ve tried so far.

But I do not need to have my makeup last that long that often so I do really enjoy using other setting sprays as well, mainly for the purpose to make my makeup look less powdery or to makeup my foundation go on smoother. A good option in this case would be MAC Prep + Prime Fix+. This is definitely a multi-purpose product for me. I love using it for wet eyeshadow application, I tend to wet my foundation brush with it before application or prime my face with it beforehand and I love it as a makeup setting spray as it helps with setting the excess powder and completes the look.

The next three sprays are designed to be skin care products but I still find them to be really good as a final makeup step. Clinique Moisture Surge Face Spray Thirsty Skin Relief is an amazing product in terms of skin hydration that I use before makeup application and as setting spray. It gives my skin enough moisture and helps with matte foundations quite a lot leaving the skin looking natural and moisturizedThe Body Shop Vitamin E Face Mist is my personal favorite and the first setting spray I’ve ever purchased. It was specifically created to increase skin hydration and to act as makeup setting solution at the same time. It has a very nice mist that covers you skin with ultra-fine drops of water and helps with product layering a lot.

And finally, there is a new member in my setting sprays collection – Avene Thermal Spring Water. It was an unexpected purchase that turned into a favorite almost instantly. It is the only spray that I tend to use throughout the day and reapply whenever I feel like it. It is designed as a skin soothing spray but can be used to freshen up your makeup and it works wonderfully this way. It adds enough moisture to the skin and does not disturb your makeup a bit even if you reapply it a dozen times a day (when it’s hot and dry, for example).

Thank you very much for your attention.

Have an amazing day!

Hugs and kisses,

Dorothea ❤

  1. I did try the UD All Nighter spray and it didn’t do very much for me. Right now I’m really enjoying the Avon setting spray – it’s really good, surprisingly!
I use a facial mist every day underneath my skincare – currently using the . Clinique Moisture Surge Face Spray Thirsty Skin Relief too! And I have a bottle of the Body Shop Vitamin E spray unopened to be started soon. 🙂 One of my all time favourite facial mists is from Sukin – it’s really hydrating too.

    1. So sorry to hear that the UD spray didn’t work for you! I’ve noticed a great difference in my makeup with it though.. Hope you’ll like The Body Shop one! It is beautiful and smells like roses ❤

  2. If I needed to prolong makeup I would get UD. But I really don’t use such sprays now. I have Avene thermal water, which I use instead of toner and when I overpowder my face..so yeah in a way to set my makeup)
