Question of the Day: What kind of setting powder do you prefer – matte or luminous?

Setting powder is absolutely necessary and irreplaceable step in my everyday makeup routine. Whenever I use any liquid foundation I always set it with powder. It does not only lock my foundation in place – it makes it absolutely flawless and perfect. And I have a few different powders in my stash from matte formulas up to very luminous ones. So I wonder – what kind of setting powder do you use?

I personalyl do not have any strict rules for the powders I use. I can switch from luminous to matte powder in a second or even mix both together – for mattyfying and highlighting purposes. But I do believe that I tend to reach for luminous powders in summer more often than in winter. And in colder month I do really like my skin to be more on the matte side.

I also have a couple of favorites in each category. As for the matte powders I have really been enjoying two gems from the drugstore – Rimmel Stay Matte Long Lasting Pressed Powder and Catrice All Matte Shine Control Powder. As for luminous powders – there are at least three winners there: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light, Maybelline Fit Me Pressed Powder and Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Powder.

So, tell me – what is your favorite setting powder out there? What kind of effect do your prefer? Matte or luminous? I would really love to know! Please, share your answers, thoughts and ideas in the comments down below!

Thank you very much for your attention.

Have an amazing day!

Hugs and kisses,

  1. It depends on how my skin feels when I put my foundation on my face. I have yet to find one that has totally “wowed” me. Currently, I am using Bare Minerals mineral veil. I am waiting for my new purchase to arrive, Japonesque Color Pixelated finishing powder. I really hope this will be the one for my winter skin. It claims to add a soft flicker of light to the skin, blur imperfections, without caking and settling into lines.

  2. When I was younger, I was ALL about the MATTE powders but now I like something with a bit of luminous finish. A few that I like are: MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural, MAC Studio Sculpt Defining Powder (this is the one I’m currently using), and the Becca Perfect Skin Mineral powder. All provide a bit of satin finish. 🙂

  3. The Rimmel Stay Matte Long Lasting Pressed Powder is one of my favorites! I just wish the packaging was sturdier. The cap cracks really easily, so I have to be careful whenever I handle it.
