Favorite MAC Lip Liners: Hip’N’Happy, Whirl, Subculture

Even though I do not use lip liner on daily basis I still  prefer using a lip liner for darker lips and for special occasions to make my lipsticks stay longer. The right lip liner works magic in terms of prolonging lipstick wear time and helping you out with reds and darker shades. Today I decided to share with you my favorite and as a result most used MAC lip liners.

MAC Lip Pencil ($16.50) is a pencil in a wide range of colors designed for shaping, lining and filling in lips.

This lip liner comes in a pencil form and in a huge variety of shades (41 to be exact!) from nudes to reds to darker, deeper plums and almost blacks. Such a good choice of colors allows everyone to easily find something to one’s liking and that is a huge plus. The amount of product you get is 1.45 g or 0.05 us oz that is a very descent amount for a lip pencil and it will last you for a very long time as a result!

MAC Lip Pencil in Subculture Review
MAC Lip Pencil in Subculture

MAC Lip Pencil in Subculture is officially described as ‘underground pink‘ and it is a natural beige color with very subtle pink undertones and a completely matte finish. This was my first MAC lip liner and I got it for nude and pale lipsticks.

It works nicely both as a lip liner and as a lipstick. Even the formula is more on the drier side and the pencil itself is a bit stiff it still is a nice option to fill in your lips if you use a lip balm. This particular shade is perfect for nude and lighter lipsticks as it is ‘your lips but better‘ shade.

MAC Lip Pencil in Hip'N'Happy Review
MAC Lip Pencil in Hip’N’Happy

MAC Lip Pencil in Hip’N’Happy is officially described as ‘dirty blue pink‘ and is a cool-toned light pink shade with strong blue undertones and a completely matte finish. It is really hard for me to find a nice cool-toned pink lip liner and this one is almost perfect!

It has exactly the same formula as Subculture but I love to use it to fill in the lips (as a lipstick) as it stays put like that forever! It is a perfect shade for those with fair or light skin tones with stronger pink undertones. It is a nice lip liner to use with pink lip glosses or pale pink lipsticks.

MAC Lip Pencil in Whirl Review
MAC Lip Pencil in Whirl

MAC Lip Pencil in Whirl is officially described as ‘dirty rose‘ and is a medium-toned brown with slightly pink undertones and a completely matte finish. This particular shade I got without even swatching it because it was known to be the ‘Kylie Jenner shade’. Nevertheless, I am really happy I got it cause it is an absolutely amazing shade!

MAC Lip Pencil in Whirl (swatches) Review

This formula of this lip pencil is somehow a little bit softer compared to the above-mentioned Subculture and Hip’N’Happy. It is a very wearable shade for daily-wear and acts as nice lip liner for darker beige and brown lipsticks as well. It looks amazing on its own though I doubt it is an exact Kylie Jenner lipstick shade as it is a bit too warm. It also lasts forever on the lips if used as a lipstick. Very beautiful shade!

These lip liners are not as soft as MAC Pro-Longwear Lip Pencils but these liners stay put for ages. And due to moderate usage MAC Lip Pencils will last you almost forever! I also find the color choice to be exceptional and I really want to get a couple more shades from the line.

I hope this review was useful and interesting for you! Leave any questions, thoughts and ideas in the comments down below!

Thank you very much for your attention.

Have an amazing day!

Hugs and kisses,

Dorothea
