Matte liquid lipsticks have never been more popular. There are tons of matte lipsticks on the market today, both hing-end and drugstore. Nyx Soft Matte Lip Creams have been the most popular ones for the longest time and have even become the trendsetters for all these successors. I have three beautiful shades to show you today as these lipsticks deserve the hype they get.
Nix Soft Matte Lip Cream ($6.00) – neither lipstick nor lip gloss, this matte lip cream is a new kind of lip color that goes on silky smooth and sets to a matte finish. Soft Matte Lip Cream is surprisingly durable and unlike some matte lipstick formulas also moisturizing.
Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream is a creamy type of a matte lipstick. The texture of the product seems to be a lot like the whipped cream. All lip creams come in a tube with black cap and colored bottom that reflects the color inside. The amount of product you get is 0.27 fl. oz. or 8 ml that is more than you get with the Revlon Matte Balms (2.7 g) or with any of the MAC Lipglasses (4.8 g).
All lipsticks have a very precise sponge-type applicator that helps with application a lot. All three shades that I own dry matte and have a very good staying powder. The texture of the product is very gentle and it requires ten to fifteen minutes to set. When it’s set it looks completely matte and feels like nothing on the lips. It is neither drying nor hydrating. None of the lipstick require a balm underneath.
Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in Tokyo is a light yellow based pink shade with matte finish. It is not the easiest one to apply as it goes on streaky and you have to really work it into your lips to get an even coverage. The applicator is quite a precise one but it does not help with this particular shade.
The final result is a bit patchy but it is not that visible from the distance. Such a yellow-based shade is a hard one to wear for me as it does not seem to be flattering on my cool-toned skin but may be a perfect shade for someone else. It dries completely matte and stays on my lips for not less than 6 hours.
Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in Milan is a medium-dark cool-toned pink shade with slightly blue undertones and a matte finish. This is a favorite of mine as it is very easy to apply. It goes almost opaque in one swipe and is also easy to build up to full opacity.
This shades dries matte in about ten minutes though it has a bit of reflect in flash. It is a beautiful and very flattering shade for many skin tones. A universal pink. It stays on my lips for 6 hours slightly fading afterwards.
Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in San Paulo is a deep berry shade with neutral undertones and a matte finish. It is a marvelous shade that makes your teeth look extremely white. It applies easily in one swipe and goes on completely opaque.
I love deep berry shades for Autumn and this one might be an amazing choice if you are into matte lips. It also dries completely matte in about ten minutes and stays put for at least 6 hours with minor fading. You have to be very precise with application as this shade is dark and requires a lip liner to outline the lips’ edges.
Regardless of my disappointing experience with the Tokyo shade, I have to say the Nyx Soft Matte Lip Creams are pretty amazing matte lipsticks and are not drying that is a huge plus. I believe that lighter shades may actually be more patchy and streaky than the darker ones. I can totally recommend you both Milan and San Paulo if you like such shades as these two perform wonderfully. I even think that there is a chance to apply Tokyo evenly and mix it with other shades to even it out and to lighten the second shade. Nevertheless, Nyx Soft Matte Creams are worth checking out!
