Chanel Nail Polish: Vertigo

Keeping up with Chanel nail polish series I decided to show you today one of the almost-black nail polishes Chanel issued a couple of years ago. Even though it is pretty dark it still manages to escape being completely black and stays very dimensional. All Chanel nail polishes differ from other brands in terms of how they look on the nails and this particular nail polish is a great example.

Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour ($27.00) features classic and trend-defining shades in an exclusive formula that strengthens and moisturizes nails as it delivers high-shine colour. Applies without streaking.

Vertigo was a limited edition nail polish within the Chanel ‘Les Essentials De Chanel’ collection for Fall 2012. It was released along with two other gorgeous nail polishes – pale grey Frenzy and bright berry Suspicious. It is a very unique shade that have no dupes to it either in the drugstore or in high-end department.

The Chanel Vertigo is a deep blackened purple plum shade with strong grey and brown undertones. It looks a lot like a dried plum as it is not completely black but have a very distinctive plum note to it. It also have a lot of extremely finely milled pink and purple shimmer in it that is only visible in a bottle and barely visible on the nails even with the direct flash. But this particular shimmer makes it dimensional and not flat.

It is very creamy and rich in consistency and has a creamy and glossy finish. Being creamy this nail polish glides on your nail easily and you need two thin coats to completely even it out. It has a beautiful and glossy finish on its own but I prefer to use a fast-dryuing top coat as usual.

It applies easily but it has an average lasting power with or without the top coat. It usually stays on my nails for about five days with minor tip wear – minor enough to get away with it.

This one is unique. People keep asking whether it is a black nail polish or not, because it makes everyone confused – you see black but you feel it is not black. That is how i would describe it: when you look at this nail polish on your nails and you try to determine the color of it – you may go dizzy – it is completely indescribable. Vertigo means dizziness – as if you were looking down the winding staircase.

This is definitely one of my cherished almost-black nail polishes. It is beautiful and unique and it is absolutely amazing for late Autumn. You can actually still find it online but it remains the limited edition shade.
