I always find it amazing how Chanel manages to recreate shades and texture of nature in their nail polishes. You won’t find a better copy of black pearls than the Chanel Black Pearl nail polish. Everything in it screams black pearl – from shade to texture, from undertones to perly finish.
Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour ($27.00) features classic and trend-defining shades in an exclusive formula that strengthens and moisturizes nails as it delivers high-shine colour. Applies without streaking.
Chanel Black Pearl was a part of Chanel Spring Makeup Collection for 2011 called ‘Les Perles De Chanel’ and therefore dedicated to the ultimate beauty of pearls. It was accompanied by two other shades – Chanel Peche Nacree and Chanel Pearl Drop, that imitate other shades that pearls naturally develop. It is currently not a limited edition, but it is presented mainly in European countries.
The Chanel Black Pearl is a deep and darkened cool toned forest green shade with strong grey undertones and with teal, blue and green micro shimmer that results in a very distinctive metallic finish on the nails. It is a hard shade to describe and it is pretty unique as I haven’t seen any close dupes yet.
This nail polish is very metallic and as every metallic nail polish it goes on streaky. The streakiness is most obvious with the first coat and the second coat helps to significantly even it out. Nevertheless, it still has some streakiness when it’s completely dry and if you do not apply it fast enough you will end up with tones of streaks on the surface of nail polish.
It is not the easiest nail polish to apply but it dries quite quickly – especially with a fast-drying top coat. It is extremely glossy on its own and does not actually require to be topped with a glossy top coat. The wear rime for such a dark shade is pretty good – it usually last for four-five days on my nails with very minor tip wear.
I especially like how it looks on my short nails! And as for the shade I think it is quite an interesting one. It definitely looks a lot like a real black pearl (Chanel, bravo!) and I usually receive a lot of compliments with it. Even though it is a darker shade it is not too much for daily wear as it is quite muted and soft.
If you like pearl-like nail polishes you might actually really like Chanel Black Pearl. It is very autumn-appropriate and goes well with the majority of fall looks as it is cool-toned and quite dark. It think it is pretty unique and quite eye-catching for a nail polish.
