Question of the Day: What do you use to clean your brushes?

Brushes are the best tools to create a perfect and flawless makeup look. And notwithstanding what brushes you use, high-end or drugstore, they still require regular cleansing and care. Yesterday I decided to clean all of my brushes and I wondered what is the best way to do that? What products are the best for that purpose?

I personally prefer using different products to clean my brushes depending on how stained my brushes (or beauty blenders!) are and what types of products I was applying previously with these brushes.

I really like the MAC Brush Cleanser ($15.00), that may not be the cheapest brush cleanser out there but it always works perfectly well with any brush I have, either it is made of synthetic or natural hair. It cleans your brushes, disinfects them and also conditions your brushes to make them super soft and crisp clean. I prefer to use this cleanser for new brushes in oder to disinfect them before the first use.

If my brushes are not that stained with makeup and were used two or three times – I would reach for an ordinary shampoo. Something from the drugstore does the job pretty well! I like Johnson’s Baby Shampoo ($2.98), as it helps to make your brushes soft and is unscented.

For my sponges and beauty blenders I always use the Beautyblender Liquid Cleanser ($18.00 for 150 ml or 5 oz). I have read some reviews stating that it is not the best cleanser that Beuatyblender does. And when I first got it I was a bit disappointed because it was not making my beauty blenders clean enough. Then I decided to read instructions throughly. It says to use a small amount of liquid and work it into lather. Once I did exactly that I was pleasantly surprised how wonderfully it really works! If you work in small areas, focusing on stains – it will make you beauty blender (or any sponge of your choice) very clean. It even gets rid of very stubborn stains and is a nice cleanser for brushes as well.

What do you use to clean you brushes? And sponges or beauty blenders? What do you think works the best? Share your answers in the comments below!

Thank you very much for your attention.

Have an amazing day!

Hugs and kisses,

Dorothea

  2. Great post huni – I have to say I’m a Johnsons baby shampoo gal but I do need to invest in something a little more ‘specific’ for the job!! I had no idea you could buy cleaning lotion for beauty blenders – must look into that a little more! Thanks for sharing 🙂 Karen x

  3. Shampoo withous silicones, hand soap or baby wash:) That what I use. I don’t think about spending extra money on a special cleanser when those are doing their job great:)
