Every high-end brand has their own version of the famous Urban Decay Naked palette. It was such a success that there is no surprise it caused such a hype and so many successors in the beauty world. I was very excited to find out that one of my favorite drugstore brands also has something to offer in this category.
Maybelline The Nudes Palette in the Nudes ($11.99) features 12 shade collection curated to create infinite looks with bold beiges, sultry sands, brazen bronzers, and over the top taupes.
This palette comes in a plastic packaging with transparent window instead of the mirror. It might be a drawback for some of you if you travel a lot and need a built-in mirror in a your palette. I do not actually need it. The size of all twelve pans is very descent and big enough for any eyeshadow brush you might use with it. There are twelve eyeshadows in the palette that are logically grouped in order to allow you to use these eyeshadows as duos, trios and quads as the scheme on the back of the palette suggests.
In terms of shades this palette is extremely neutral, warm and leans brown a lot, though it has several light and cool-toned shades that doesn’t change the color-theme that much nevertheless. The shades in top row, from left to right: light creme beige with golden sheen, matte cool-toned taupe, matte peach beige, shimmery dirty bronze, pink based true taupe, cool-toned medium dark brown with grey undertone. Bottom row, from left to right: warm-toned peachy brown with golden sheen, matte yellow-based dark brown, light orange-y gold with shimmer, deep dark burgundy with red undertones, light pinky grey with subtle shimmer, matte grey-ish black.
This palette definitely allows you to create several looks as it has everything you need for a full eye makeup look – mattes, shimmers, taupes, darks and all-over shades. If you use this palette alone you will be able to create mainly the brown-gold based eye looks with some difference in shade intensity. All of the shadows perform beautifully if applied over the base (I prefer Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base).
It is a very good palette if you prefer doing the same type of eye makeup everyday as it doesn’t offer you a good diversity of shades. But it definitely allows you to make office-approprite natural eye looks and intensify the colors for evening and party makeup looks. As for me, it is most useful as a supplementary palette for more colorful eyeshadows or palettes as it has all the best colors for crease and brow-bone highlighters. It is wonderful both in terms of quality and price, I just wish for a bit more variety in shades. But if you love warm-toned eyeshadows, golds and brows – you definitely have to check it out – it is a hit!
