Question of the Day: Do you like using face primers?

Face primers seem to be a huge hit now with the most recent release of the Make Up For Ever Step 1 primers, Smashbox Pore Minimizing Primer and the all-time favorite Benefit Professional. Practically every brand has a primer to offer nowadays and sometimes more than one option – you have pore minimizing primers, color correcting ones and illuminating bases.

I can’t say I use primer that often. Maybe the reason is that I have dry skin and most primers tend to dry it out even more. But there are also moisturizing primers on the market, you wouldΒ say. And it’s true but an ordinary face cream does the same job especially when set with the MAC Fix+ or a face spray – my makeup still stays perfectly on for the whole day.

Nevertheless from time to time I do buy some primers and I normally prefer primers and bases that are supposed to illuminate the skin or make it appear healthier and more radiant. I do really like the Benefit Girl Meets Pearl for its glowy texture and divine smell, the Benefit POREfessional is also an amazing option to completely erase any pores on your face, the Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer is a good moisturizer and Guerlain Meteorites Light-Diffusing Perfecting PrimerΒ helps to prolong the wear of your makeup.

There are definitely a lot of different primers to choose from and I wonder – do you use any makeup primers? Is it a part of your daily routine or do you tend to reach for it for special occasions only? What are your favorite primers if any? And why do you use face primers?Β Please leave your answers and share your thoughts in the comments down below!

Thank you very much for your attention.

Have an amazing day!

Hugs and kisses,

  1. I used to always wear primer with my foundation, but I stopped last month and my makeup lasts longer without it. It’s a matter of finding a primer that meshes well with your foundation, but I also felt like (for me) primer was an extra unnecessary layer. After moisturizing and sunscreen and primer, my foundation would slide off.

    1. Too many layers are always a bad for any foundation – maybe that’s the reason why they start producing moisturizing primers for example – to escape one extra layer. And for the sunscreen you can also now get a foundation with SPF so minus one more layer. I do not tend to use primer that often too for that reason of layering as well. Thanks for sharing πŸ™‚

  2. I’ve just started using Etude House Face Blur primer – not great so far but I’ve yet to decide whether it’s my sunscreen or just my dry skin it doesn’t like!

  3. After trying a primer I reverted to a moisturising lotion instead before applying my foundation and I find it works much better for my skin πŸ™‚ My makeup stays on longer, looks fresher and my face doesn’t dry out or look tired after a few hours! Fab post! Karen XX

  4. My first experience with a primer (Smashbox) wasn’t a good one, it broke me out heavily so I didn’t use one for years. Just started testing the Paulas Choice Shine Stopper Primer and I’m liking it a lot so far! Jay x

    1. I’ll definitely check this one out! The thing with primers is that you have to thoroughly cleanse your skin as silicone-based primers do tend to block the pores and as a result cause the break outs
