I believe that one of the most raved about face palettes in the world for a very long time has been the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit. Up to date it remains one of the most purchased and most wished for makeup products of the brand. It set the standard for all the upcoming and released face contour palettes and every other makeup brand out there follows it with no doubt.
I was a little bit late on adding this palette to my collection and purchased it more out of curiosity then out of need earlier this year. And after using it daily I can share my thoughts on this palettes with you.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit ($40.00) contains six highlighting and contouring powders that work together to help you sculpt, define and enhance your natural features.
The popularity of this palette can mostly be explained by the fact that at the moment of its initial limited edition release it was the only contouring palette out there on the market. It was interesting and unusual because this palette has two highlighting powders of two flattering colors, one actual subtle highlighter, one contouring shade and two bronzers. It was even more alluring because a lot of different skin tones could get use out of it.
As you can see two highlighting powders are cool and warm toned and highlighter is very universal. As for the countering shades you have the choice of two and the one that is not suitable for contouring on your skin tone works perfectly as a bronzer. The other deep shade in the palette is a much deeper bronzing shade ideal for tan skin in summer. So basically you can easily use this palette throughout the year. In terms of quality it is a very nice product, as all the powders are silky smooth and blend really well on the skin.
Detailed description of the highlighting shades in the palette:
‘Banana’ – is a very light yellow warm toned shade, with sheer-to-light intensity of application; goes well for warm and olive skin tones as an under eye setting powder. Does a very nice job at highlighting but will look quite ashy on deep skin tones.
‘Vanilla’ – is a perfect under eye setting powder to me as it leans more cool toned and is perfect for pink skin undertones. This powder is matte and it does add some highlighting effect.
‘Sand’ – is a true highlighter in the palette. It is a warm toned champagne color with gold glitter in it. This powder is very finely milled and it silky and soft to touch, blends really well on the skin and leaves very natural subtle highlight with more of a golden sheen finish.

Detailed description of the contour shades in the palette:
‘Fawn’ – ashy toned light orange based brown color that could be a perfect contour shade for those with warm and olive skin tones. On me it looks a bit dirty and orange and performs way better as a bronzer when applied with a light hand.
‘Java’ – cool toned and pink-based brown, more suitable for cool and pink toned skin types. I prefer to use this shade as a contour due to its cool undertones and buildable texture.
‘Havana’ – very deep orange-based warm brown color. This is a true bronzer in a palette and I doubt it is useful as a contour shade for fair and light skin tones. But it could be a very nice bronzer if you have a bit of a tan and if you use it moderately.

Overall I can understand why this palette has been so much raved about. It is not a must-have palette for you if you already own some highlighters and contour shades and you will eventually end up using two or three shades out of this palette.
But if you really want to dive into contouring techniques, to understand the principles, to experiment with colors, to determine what shades work best for you – you should definitely start with the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit. All other contouring palettes are the successors of this one and offer the same range of colors and based on the very same idea.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit comes in three options: Light-to-Medium, Medium-to-Tan, Tan-to-Deep. The one featured in this post is the Light-to-Medium kit.
