My thoughts on: MAC Prep+Prime Fix+

About a month ago I started new series of posts called “My thoughts on …” which represent what I think of a certain product or products in a form of a review and usually these are the products that I personally use daily and that are really good for some specific purpose. So today I decided to tell you what I think about quite a well-known makeup finishing spray – MAC Prep+Prime Fix+.

If you think that the packaging is a bit unfamiliar – you are correct. The new Mac Prep+Prime Fix+ ($22.00) got upgraded a while ago and from now on comes in a matte translucent bottle instead of the plain transparent one, that it used to be sold in before. The formula nevertheless remains the same.

Mac Fix+ is a lightweight, mineral rich finishing mist that refreshens the skin and finishes makeup. Helps create an even surface for a smooth makeup application.

The official description is honestly pretty truthful. As you may know I have quite a dry type of skin and the main criteria for face products I choose is to be smoothing, moisturizing and not irritating. This particular mist is designed to be used underneath your makeup as well as over it.

When you use Fix+ prior makeup application it is supposed to prepare your skin for further face products and to create an even surface. It is a good refreshing spray but not a must-have for me. It does moisturize your skin but cannot replace the day cream. Might be a useful product for this purpose on hot days or on the beach though.

As finishing touch to your makeup it is on contrary quite irreplaceable for me. Having dry skin I nevertheless cannot skip using finishing powder to set any liquid products on my face and this can sometimes lead to increased dryness and patching. This mist definitely helps to set my makeup (but not to prolong the wear) and brings the needed moisture to the skin. As a result my makeup never looks heavy and too powdery.

This mist comes in two sizes – 100 ml (3.4 US fl oz) for $22.00 and MAC Sized to Go Fix+ in the 30 ml (1.0 US  fl oz) packaging for $10.00. Initially I got the small packaging and I am very happy with it, though the bigger packaging is more cheeper in terms of the amount of product you get. But at the same time Sized to Go version is perfect for traveling – so there are two options and you can get the one more suitable for your purposes. The 30 ml lasted me for about two and a half months and I was using it quite often and still have a little bit left.

This product is a really good setting spray, especially for those with dry skin. I plan to keep using it and as you may see I already got the full sized bottle of this magical mist.

Have you ever used the Fix+? Or may be you are using it quite often now? What do you think of this product? If you have any questions, ideas or thoughts – please leave them in the comments down below.

Thank you very much for your attention.

Have an amazing day!

Hugs and kisses,

Dorothea

  1. I am personally a big fan of the Smashbox primer water which is a very similar product. I find it sprays nicer and thats why I prefer it. My fix+ is good to sort of mist up my dry skin after a long day, or to use to wet my brush when I want to foil an eyeshadow, but as an actual primer I don’t think it does much for me.
