The Blackest Eyeliner: Pencils

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Perversion, MAC Kohl Power Eye Pencil in Feline, Maybelline Master Kajal in Onyx Rush

Hello, gorgeous!

I believe that everyone of us has always wanted to have a perfect winged liner and that most chosen color for that purpose all over the world is back. And there’s no surprise – black eyeliners have widely been popular since ancient China and Egypt. Our ancestors used black colors to emphasize the beauty of their eyes, to attract attention and to show their position in the society. And nowadays we use the black liner to look more attractive and to make our eyes even more irresistible. So, I decided to dedicate this month’s series exactly to the talk about black eyeliner and today we are going to discuss those in pencil form.

Pencil eye liners are the most favorite ones for the majority of makeup lovers for a number of reasons. First of all, pencil eyeliners are the easiest to use, to control and it is much harder to make a wrong move as we are more comfortable using pencil in a real life than anything else. Secondly, these eyeliners are multitaskers – you can use them to slightly line your lash line and then smudge it for a more smoky effect, or draw a precise (more or less) winged liner, or darken your water line. And eye pencil is a wonderful product for all of these purposes.

Today I wanted to tell you about three pencils, that I love to use whenever I do my makeup and I find the quality of these pencils to be really high.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Perversion

The first one is Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil ($20.00) in Perversion which is my makeup staple and absolute must-have. I already have a couple of these pencils stored safely in my makeup stash. The color is exactly as it is described by the brand – it is matte blackest black. It is the deepest black pencil I’ve ever encountered and it has the smoothest and softest texture ever. This pencil is definitely worth a try. You can use in tons of ways! It is waterproof so it stays perfectly for hours on your waterline and doesn’t not transfer on your lens, if you are wearing any. It is smudge-able and you can easily use it for smoky eye look and it is also easy to use with the brush to create a winged liner. This one is my personal recommendation if you have been looking for a perfect black liner.

MAC Kohl Power Eye Pencil in Feline

The next one is MAC Kohl Power Eye Pencil ($16.00) in Feline. It is a true rich black matte color and it has a tiny bit drier formula than the Urban decay one, that makes the application less creamy but as a result you get more control of the line you create. It is a perfect choice for lining the waterline as is stays there for hours and hours without smudging or disappearing. And it is also easily smudge-able until it’s set.

Maybelline Master Kajal in Onyx Rush

And finally, there is Maybelline Master Kajal ($7.99) in Onyx Rush. It is designed in a kajal form, so you are supposed to use it sideways and there’s no need to sharpen it. The formula is waterproof that makes this liner perfect to be used on the inner line of the eye. And it also smudges perfectly with the brash that allows it be used for smoky eye looks so easily.

Here are the comparison swatches for all three liners:

As you can see Urban Decay is the creamiest of all and allows thick and opaque application in one stroke with the deep black color. MAC has visibly drier formula, though it is still opaque. And Maybelline is the lightest of all that is explained by the fact that it is Kajal and it does not allow a lot of pressure on the lead. The thick application reveals the fact that Mac pencil is completely matte, the Urban Decay one has a little shine to it and Maybelline kajal is not that deep rich black color as the other two. Nevertheless, all the pencils perform beautifully and I equally love to use them whenever I need a black liner.

What is your favorite black eye liner? How often do you use pencils doing your makeup?

I will be happy to hear what you think and what products you like!

Thank you very much for your attention.

Have an amazing day!

Hugs and kisses,

Dorothea

      1. Lol yea I’m not perfect at application, but I’ve found a slow steady stroke makes for easier/better application.
