What is your favorite eyeshadow base?

Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base ($25.00), Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion ($20.00) in Original, NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil ($4.50) in Milk, MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot ($21.00) in Let's Skate, Maybelline Color Tattoo 24Hr Cream Gel Shadow ($6.99) in Pink Gold, L'oreal True Match Concealer ($8.95)

Hello, gorgeous!

I guess that everyone’s dream concerning using eyeshadows is that they last longer. Preferably the whole day. And more and more brands nowadays do provide us with a plenty of alternatives how to make our eyeshadows stay put for hours, look brighter and true to pan and sometimes even add a little bit of beautiful effect.

Not that long go I was talking about my favorite, absolute must-have eyeshadow base – Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base ($25.00), that has a light color to it but dries out transparent on your eyes. It makes any of my eyeshadows, even the worst ones, look gorgeous and last all day. And it’s a perfect choice for your daily makeup-routine.

Before I discovered Nars base, I had been almost religiously using the world’s most well-known eyeshadows base – Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion ($20.00) in Original. And I still believe it’s a wonderful product, though not as perfect as my Nars one. The one in shade Original is almost identical is characteristics to Nars base as it dries transparent so I see no point in having both. But the shade Sin is unbelievably beautiful especially used for sparkly eyeshadows and alone.

I’m also a biggest fan of NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil ($4.50) especially in Milk as it is a truly irreplaceable base for poorly-performing eyeshadows and the perfect way to intensify any eyeshadow color. It significantly brightens the shade up, but as for me it is its main purpose.

There was also a time when I was using MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot ($21.00) in Let’s Skate underneath my eyeshadows a lot and I was pretty happy with it. I think that Paint Pots in general is a nice alternative for Nars and Urban Decay bases, but it’s more on a drier side and could be a perfect match for those with oily lids. And the color range is also huge including nice skin tone colors that can help you to neutralize the veins or redness on your eyelids and not to change the original color of an eyeshadow applied on top.

When I want my eye look to last for ages – I go for Maybelline Color Tattoo 24Hr Cream Gel Shadow ($6.99) in Pink Gold as it literally stays on your eyes 16 hours (!) at very least. Maybelline have tons of shades that you can choose from and any eyeshadows applied over it look vibrant and nice.

And finally a lot of people like to use their concealers as a makeup base and it’s quite a good option. I’d choose L’oreal True Match Concealer ($8.95) for that purpose if I had to due to it’s neutral beige color, non-drying formula and good staying power. And as a bonus you won’t get any difference in color between your lids and under-eye area.

Tell me, what eyeshadow bases do you use? Do you use it daily? Or maybe you don’t like to use a base underneath your eyeshadows at all? What products can you recommend?

I will be happy to hear what you think and what products you like!

Thank you very much for your attention.

Have an amazing day!

Hugs and kisses,

Dorothea

  1. I agree with Nars, I’ve used the UD forever but I probably will stick to the Pro Prime from now on. I’m still trying to use up the UD, that stuff lasts forever!!!

  2. I’ve used the UD primer potion and it’s awesome! Haven’t tried the others mentioned in your post but I’m using the Luscious Angel Eyes Primer and I think it’s pretty good as well! 🙂

      1. I didn’t take much notice about the difference in eyeshadow colour intensity because I used the Naked Palette then and the eyeshadows on its own were pretty pigmented. The wear time is definitely longer, I came home after a couple of hours and my eye make up still looked good as new 🙂

  3. The Urban Decay primer potion but I brought a Bobbi Brown one to try next. Fingers crossed it’s alright, I’ve used the Urban Decay one for such a long time xx
